Mold Abatement

Moisture, temperature and a food source are the prime ingredients for fungal growth. A water leak left undiscovered for a month or more can create the right conditions for mold to take hold. Each colony contains millions of spores and any kind of disturbance puts them in the air where they can move to another part of the house. While we think of mushrooms growing in damp dark places—and they do—with the right conditions they can also grow on wallpaper with about 11% moisture content, in drywall with less than 1% and 17% in wood.

Lead Abatement

Lead from paint is a significant concern, however. Lead can find its way into soils from a variety of sources. The site of an old junkyard could have a variety of contaminants, including lead, and children playing in the dirt could be exposed to them. The same goes for a target range, a battery storage area or even a site where old buildings were demolished. It’s a good idea to test the soils on these type properties and clear out any areas that have hazardous levels of contamination before buying, selling or building on the property. And remember, just because the junk and debris have been cleared away, it doesn’t mean the lot is safe. SEG will investigate and test the site to find out if it is  safe.
